Becoming a Member

We’re thrilled that you’ve made the decision to join! We pledge to do everything we can to make this a productive and rewarding year for you.

If you don't already have a login, you will first need to create an account.

There are a few different ways you can join AMIA:

AMIA’s 5,000+ members are subject matter experts in the science and practice of informatics as it relates to clinical care, research, education and policy. Individual members include:

  • Physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists and other clinicians
  • Researchers and educators
  • Biomedical and health science librarians
  • Advanced students pursuing a career in informatics
  • Scientists and developers
  • Government officials and policymakers
  • Consultants and industry professionals
  • Students

AMIA also welcomes academic institutions as members of its Academic Forum, health system members, and corporate members.

Yes! AMIA has a retired membership category for individual retirees (age 65+) who have been regular members for at least two years or longer.

Taking Advantage of your Membership 

Connect.AMIA.org  is the home for all working groups and AMIA communities.

Working groups are an AMIA member benefit and not available to nonmembers.

To access the Working Groups on AMIA Connect:

  1. Visit connect.amia.org
  2. If you aren't already logged in, be sure to sign in first.
  3. Select the Communities tab and select "Browse All Communities" in the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on the ‘All Community Types’ drop-down menu and select "Working Groups."
  5. Click the the blue "Join" button to start engaging.

The AMIA Member Directory is located on AMIA Connect. Use of the directory is strictly prohibited for commercial, institutional or financial use, including recruitment and/or bulk collection of data.

The AMIA Member Directory is an AMIA member benefit and not available to nonmembers.

  1. Visit AMIA Connect
  2. If you aren't already logged in, be sure to sign in first.
  3. Click "Membership Directory" in the left-hand navigation.
  4. Choose from "Basic Search" or "Advanced Search" to find members by name, location, group, expertise, profession, and occupational setting.

If you suspect that your Member Directory information is being used inappropriately, please contact us.

The JAMIA Journal is a member benefit and the entire issue is not available to nonmembers.

  1. Login to AMIA.org
  2. Visit the Journal Access Page.
  3. Click JAMIA

Your username is the email address used when you created your account. If you cannot remember which email address you used to create your profile, please contact us.

If you forgot your password, visit www.amia.org/forgotpassword. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password.

Membership Renewals

There are a few different ways you can renew your AMIA membership:

  • Visit My Membership within your AMIA account. You'll find information about your status and a link to renew.
  • Return the invoice we mailed you along with payment to PO Box 412989, Boston, MA 02241-2989.
  • Call 301-657-1291.

If you would like to renew your membership prior to September, please contact us directly so that we may assist you.

AMIA membership is a calendar year membership. If your intention is for your membership to be for the following calendar year, please contact us at and we will make that adjustment for you.

Memberships purchased prior to 11/1 will expire on 12/31 of the year they were purchased.

If you plan to take advantage of the member rate to one of AMIA's meetings, you must have an active membership at the time of the meeting.

Refunds for membership must be received within 7 days and will be assessed a $50 service fee. If a membership is purchased in conjunction with a meeting registration and the meeting has passed, a refund is not applicable.
