Health systems and hospitals are faced with the challenge of maintaining and improving the knowledge and skills of an engaged healthcare workforce. Competition for skilled staff makes offering access to high-quality professional development and training even more important.

Professional development and training is the one tool employers have that continuously improves the workplace through relevant education and career growth opportunities for individual employees. With so many varied options for employee engagement, upskilling, and professional development, it is critical to select educational content from trusted, credible sources. But, when it comes to the specific need for health informatics education for care teams, the options are few and expertise matters. AMIA provides this expertise through its high-quality, educational opportunities.

AMIA’s Health System Membership is designed to help organizations support the health informatics education and training needs of staff in health systems and hospital settings. Through the membership, individual health system and hospital employees are granted credits they can use to take advantage of AMIA’s many digital, learning-on-demand programs.

Learning Tools for Busy Professionals on the Go

Adult learners juggle the demands of their families, their jobs, their education, and more. Online learning from AMIA makes continuing education easy to access and complete. Learners are able to use their time wisely, make measurable progress, test their knowledge, and obtain health informatics training.

AMIA’s many online educational programs — the new Health Informatics Essentials courses, the 10x10 Virtual Courses, the AMIA Health Informatics Certification Review Course (ARC) for health informatics certification, and the Clinical Informatics Board Review Course (CIBRC) for the clinical informatics subspecialty certification — are all available through the Health System Membership.

Online, On-Demand Courses — Health Informatics Essentials

AMIA offers an online education series called Health Informatics Essentials, designed to promote the profession of health informatics and its power to transform health care. This series, offering more than 40 hours of on-demand education, is comprised of five CME/CNE-certified courses, each of which offers topical modules with multiple video lectures. The courses are designed for professionals who are involved in direct or indirect care of patients and who desire to learn more about the practice of health informatics coming from a range of educational and training pathways, including but not limited to nursing, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, public health, health informatics, and computer science.

Who is Eligible for the Health System Membership?

The Health System Membership is available to organizations that deliver or pay for healthcare or public-health services. Health systems include integrated delivery networks, hospitals, clinics, provider groups, health centers, home health agencies, insurance companies, state/county/city departments of health, government agencies, and healthcare quality-and-safety-promotion organizations. A membership may be held at the corporate, regional, or local level.

Health System Membership Benefits

Health System Members receive educational credit allotments, which individual employees redeem for AMIA’s online educational offerings. The number of credits varies by Health System Membership level. Each level is designed to offer preferred member pricing for the various online educational courses. Educational credits purchased as part of a Health System Membership may be used for both AMIA members and non-members.

Health System Members receive AMIA individual memberships to foster engagement in the association. The individual members receive regular AMIA membership benefits and AMIA’s communications. The number of included individual memberships varies by Health System Membership level.

Health System Members receive AMIA conference registrations, which may be redeemed for AMIA Clinical Informatics Conference or AMIA Annual Symposium, to encourage further educational training and networking. The number of included conference registrations varies by Health System Membership level.

Health System Members receive non-member early bird rate discounts for Health System member workforce learners to AMIA conference registrations, which may be redeemed for AMIA Clinical Informatics Conference or AMIA Annual Symposium, to encourage further educational training and networking. The number of included conference discounts varies by Health System Membership level.

Health System Members are eligible to appoint a representative to serve on the Health Systems Council and participate in the Health System Council’s monthly virtual meetings and in its two face-to-face business meetings held at in-person conferences. Council members network, share ideas, discuss issues that affect health systems and hospitals, and weigh in on public policy topics.

AMIA convenes a response team of policy experts and institutional members who generate comments on regulation and other matters of public policy. AMIA codifies the comments in a response. Via the appointed Health Systems Council representative, Health System Members may contribute to the comments. A Health System Member may also coordinate its own responses with those of AMIA, which amplifies the comments from both AMIA and the health system.

Health System Members gain access to the AMIA membership directory, which provides individual names, titles, institution names, and other contact information.

Health System Members will be recognized on AMIA’s web site and at AMIA’s in-person conferences.
