Public Biography
Dr. Gabriela Mustata Wilson is a globally recognized expert in health informatics with a proven track record of translating cutting-edge research into high-impact innovations. With a background that spans chemical engineering, pharmacoinformatics, and public health, Dr. Wilson excels at identifying and bridging gaps in the market, particularly in integrating public and ecological health solutions to drive resilience. Her extensive experience in academia, industry, and international partnerships has honed her ability to guide ventures from concept to commercialization. She currently serves as the Director of the Louisiana Center for Health Innovation and a Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where she holds the Dr. J. Robert Rivet Endowed Chair and the Acadian Ambulance Service/BORSF Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair in Health Informatics.

Dr. Wilson has held strategic roles within the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA®), where she has shaped industry standards and driven technological innovation. Her work as co-chair of the HIMSS Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (TIGER) International Initiative and as chair-elect of the AMIA Pharmacoinformatics Workgroup underscores her ability to lead in dynamic, cross-functional environments. Recognized as the 2023 HIMSS Changemaker in Health Awardee, a Fellow of HIMSS, a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (FIAHSI), and a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), Dr. Wilson’s career is marked by a commitment to innovation, global leadership, and societal impact.

The PI Working group is comprised of AMIA members who are interested in the intersection of informatics, technology and medication management. It is our intention to initiate innovation and patient safety at the nexus of informatics, technology, and medication management for efficient, beneficial patient health care.
