FAMIA Eligibility Criteria

Given the diversity of our membership and the dynamic ways in which informatics knowledge is being applied to practice, FAMIA includes two pathways: the Certification Pathway and the Long-Term Experience Pathway. The Long-Term Experience Pathway (LTE Pathway) has been extended through the 2025 application period.

The purpose for this dual track is to recognize those AMIA members who have been applying informatics skills and knowledge for several years but are ineligible to sit for an approved informatics certification exam.

Long-Term Experience Pathway

The Long-Term Experience Pathway (LTE Pathway) has been extended through the 2025 application period, after which time FAMIA applicants will need to have an Advanced Health Informatics Certification (AHIC), or other approved informatics certification, to be eligible.

Informatics Competency Qualifications (ICQs) help FAMIA applicants opting for the Long-Term Experience Pathway articulate how their efforts have:

  1. Impacted individual/population health;
  2. Impacted organizations;
  3. Leveraged Informatics & Technology; and
  4. Led Team & Change Management.

Long-Term Experience Pathway applicants must download and complete the ICQ form to successfully submit their FAMIA application.
