Recent developments in AI have demonstrated the potential for improving our ability to detect and diagnose cancer earlier. William Hsu will present his experience evaluating AI in multiple cancer screening scenarios including:

  • Assessing the reliability of imaging-based models for estimating an individual’s lung cancer risk.
  • Improving patient adherence to colorectal screening recommendations of high-risk polyps using an in-house developed algorithm.
  • Using a commercial AI algorithm to enable same-day follow-up testing of abnormal breast mammograms.

William Hsu is a Professor of Radiological Sciences and Bioengineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a biomedical informatician focused on maximizing the utility of multimodal data to detect and treat cancers earlier. His lab harnesses artificial intelligence/machine learning techniques to integrate and transform multimodal data into actionable knowledge. He serves as principal investigator on grants from the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the V Foundation. He is a deputy editor of Radiology: Artificial Intelligence and a member of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association editorial board.
