Physicians in AMIA Strategic Plan

CICOP supports the Clinical Informatics Physician Community

Physicians in AMIA has grown quickly, and has an established a strategic plan with outlined purpose, vision and mission. Read more in the 2020 Strategic Plan.

Objectives

  1. Establish and provide a newly formed “community” to encourage the active engagement and meet the professional needs and personal well-being of CIP within AMIA.
  2. Advance and promote clinical informatics as a domain, discipline and profession in both medicine and industry while establishing AMIA as the foremost comprehensive education and information resource for all CIP.
  3. Facilitate production of high-quality, evidence-based educational products and provide content that support clinical informatics physicians (CIP).
  4. Improve the quality of medical practice of clinical informatics by streamlining regulatory, education and other requirements of members.
  5. Support CIP in leadership and development of clinical informatics multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of medical care and development of technology.

AMIA supports the CICOP community

Multiple levels of assistance to help members connect, learn, grow and lead in the field.

Advocacy – Official representation on the Board of Directors through appointed CI liaisons connects the CICOP community directly to the AMIA leadership. AMIA builds executive level and staff relationships with organizations critical to the development and sustainability of the CI subspecialty through ABMS, ACGME, ACCME, ABPM, ABPath and CMSS.

Community – The AMIA Connect online community provides access to 1000+ AMIA member diplomates as a resource for discussion, networking and peer advice. Meeting space at live events is provided for face-to-face business and social activity.

Educational Services – AMIA hosts the annual Clinical Informatics Conference for 600+ practitioner attendees offering 70+ CME -eligible sessions. AMIA is ABPM’s designated partner in helping diplomates achieve continuing certification (CC) requirements. Through AMIA, diplomates receive dedicate AMIA staff assistance for Improvement of Medical Practice (IMP) project review of QI/PI projects and 360-assessments.

Recognition and Designation – Fellow status designation is offered to clinical informatics diplomates through the FAMIA program the Fellows of the American Medical Informatics Association (application and maintenance required). AMIA Clinical Informatics Fellows (ACIF), the growing group of 80+ physicians in accredited clinical informatics training programs find a home within AMIA. Clinical Informatics Program Directors (CIPD) for the 21 ACGME accredited clinical informatics fellowship programs have a leadership community within the AMIA Academic Forum. Additionally, many CIS diplomates are Fellows in the American College of Medical Informatics. (FACMI).

Professional Development and Career Opportunity – Conferences offer opportunity to present clinical informatics solutions and innovations as well as conference planning leadership roles. Job search, peer-to-peer relationship building and informal C-suite level mentoring relationships accessible through the CICOP community membership and activities.

Journals – ACI - Applied Clinical Informatics Journal is the Official eJournal of AMIA and IMIA, a platform that allows sharing knowledge between clinical medicine and health IT specialists as well as bridging gaps between visionary design and successful and pragmatic deployment.
