In this Special Emphasis Webinar of AMIA’s COVID-19 Webinar Series, we will hear from AMIA members and collaborators on how the COVID-19 pandemic has created new opportunities for telehealth to become a central component of care across inpatient and ambulatory settings. Presenters will discuss how:
- Indiana University Health initiated rapid coordination of ambulatory visits using an existing telehealth platform to onboard more than 9,000 clinic visits statewide in March and the use of centralized clinical algorithms in a virtual COVID hub that has screened thousands of patients across Indiana;
- Mount Sinai's virtual urgent care practice was able to onboard many new providers from various specialties and provide timely, appropriate COVID guidance, based on official recommendations and available evidence, to patients with a broad range of disease severity; and
- Boston Children’s Hospital leveraged telehealth to promote physical distancing and preserve PPE while taking care of hospitalized patients.
We will also hear from AMIA collaborators at the AMA who have developed a Digital Health Implementation Playbook series designed to support physicians and practices in expediting implementation, especially during this public health emergency, so care can continue to be provided to those who need it most and practices have a path to sustainability.

AMIA's COVID-19 Webinar Series highlights how the informatics community is addressing this global pandemic from all angles. From front-line informaticians and public health informaticists, to clinical and bioinformatics researchers, AMIA's members are uniquely positioned to leverage data and evidence in the fight against COVID-19.
We will look at the pandemic through a health informatics lens and is designed to share informatics responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Panelists will share their specific domain expertise, including clinical informatics, public health informatics, translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, and consumer health informatics. We will also have special emphasis webinars covering topics related to global health, telemedicine, and public policy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
