Public Biography
Teresa Zayas Cab·n, PhD, Assistant Director for Policy Development at the National Library of Medicine (NLM). In her role at NLM, Dr. Zayas Cab·n leads policy and legislative activities to promote access to scientific data and information as well as more widespread use of health data standards. Dr. Zayas Cab·n was previously Chief Scientist at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) where she led ONCís scientific efforts and activities. Prior to her position at ONC, Dr. Zayas Cab·n was the Chief of Health IT Research and Acting Director of the Division of Health IT at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. Zayas Cab·n obtained her doctorate in industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow in industrial engineering.
Historic ACMI Biography
Teresa Zayas-Cabán devised influential federally-funded research and development programs that included patients and consumers as key targets of health IT innovations, ensured the development and deployment of infrastructure tools that enhanced interoperability, and provided the playbook to integrate health systems engineering concepts into the implementation of clinical health information systems.
