Public Biography
Sabrina Hsueh, PhD, FAMIA Dr. Hsueh is an Ethical AI and External Innovation Lead at Pfizer, where she spearheads the development and implementation of responsible AI strategies. With a focus on AI observability, guardrails, and governance, she champions equitable AI in healthcare. Dr. Hsueh co-chairs the Women in AMIA steering committee and co-founded an international work group to close global health and gender equity gaps through public-private partnerships. She is passionate about leveraging informatics and AI evaluation to drive positive change for patient outcomes and beyond.

Dr. Hsueh leads industrial AI standard-setting initiatives with public-private partnerships and professional societies in her roles across enterprises such as IBM and Pfizer and start-ups in the A16z and Khosla Ventures portfolios. She also serves on the ACM Practitioners’ Board and co-chairs the Women in AMIA steering committee. Her dedication to leveraging informatics and AI evaluation has led to over 80 technical publications, patents, and co-edited special issues in reputable journals and textbooks (e.g., Personal Health Informatics by Springer Nature). Dr. Hsueh's commitment to ethical AI and her leadership in AI standardization makes her a sought-after speaker and consultant, winning awards and nominations across the fields as a Responsible AI leader in HCLS, paving the way for a more trustworthy adoption of AI technologies in a dynamic regulatory landscape.


Pei-Yun Sabrina Hsueh, Ph.D. is an elected Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA), the co-chair of AMIA AI Evaluation Showcase 2023, the Vice-Chair of AMIA Annual Symposium 2022 SPC, the Steering Committee member of Women in AMIA and Working Groups, a member of the Public Policy Committee, Co-Chair of the Awards and Leadership Subcommittee, and Past Chair of the Consumer and Pervasive Health Informatics Work Group at AMIA. Dr. Hsueh is also a Board Member of the ACM Practitioners Board and the director of the new ACM-AMIA joint podcast series. She is a global health AI leader and innovator, specializing in translating real-world problems into data science formulations and developing AI/ML solutions to decode individual biology and behavior for precision healthcare delivery applications. She has a decade of experience leading multi-functional teams to productize and evaluate health AI applications in practice. Previously, she co-founded the Behavioral Analytics track at the Center for Computational Health of IBM Research, served on the IBM Academy of Technology, and chaired the Health Informatics Professional Community. Dr. Hsueh has been a pioneer in Health AI, focusing on real-world evidence strategy and the development of platforms to deliver clinical studies and actionable insights at the point of care. Her achievements have won her a series of awards, including the AMIA Distinguished Paper Award, invention, Research Achievement, Manager Choice awards, Eminence and Excellence Award, and the Google Anita Borg Scholar Award. In addition, she authored 20+ patents and 60+ technical articles in computational linguistics and health informatics. Her expertise in emerging areas and industry solutions makes her a sought-after speaker and consultant, a thought leader in real-world evidence, and chair of applied data science events at major conferences such as AMIA, MEDINFO, MIE, and KDD. She is also the Scientific Editor of Machine Learning for Medicine and Healthcare (Springer Nature) and Personal Health Informatics (Springer Publishing), special issues in Sensors Journal, Frontiers in Public Health, and Journal of America Medical Informatics Association OPEN (JAMIA OPEN).

Public Policy Committee

Member

The committee recommends advocacy issues and activities and identifies critical areas for AMIA's strategic advocacy engagement for Board approval. The committee works with AMIA’s policy consultant, staff, and Board to develop annual work plans which support the strategic directions set by the Board. The committee works with the staff in developing and reviewing draft submissions in response to requests for comments in support of AMIA positions and helps prepare position papers on matters of public policy.
