Historic ACMI Biography
Richard F. Walters is a Professor at the University of California, Davis (UCD), which he joined in 1967. His appointments are in Medical Informatics (which he founded and which is in the School of Medicine at UCD), and in Computer Science (in the College of Engineering, where he serves as its Chair). He has been active in Medical Informatics since 1970, working with the programming language MUMPS (an acronym for Massachusetts General Hospital Utility MultiProgramming System), serves as head of the US MUMPS Users group, and helped found the MUMPS Users Group International, which is active in the United States, Europe, and Japan. He has been active in promoting electronic medical records.
