RICHARD TAYRIEN, DO, FACOI Corp VP, Applied Clinical Informatics HCA Healthcare Dr. Tayrien leads an expanding team of clinicians and informaticists responsible for the design, configuration, implementation and support of advanced health information technologies at HCA. As the Chief Health Information Officer he led the implementation of advanced clinical functionality to achieve Meaningful Use across 156 hospitals at HCA. He currently leads the design and development of metrics toward the evaluation, and measurement of effectiveness and outcomes expectations for major Informatics projects. He also leads the development and implementation of policy and procedure toward the the safe and compliant use of the EHR in patient care. Before coming to HCA, Dr Tayrien served for 8 years as the first CMIO at Dignity Healthcare, a 42-hospital system spanning California Arizona and Nevada. At Dignity he led the selection and implementation of full a replacement EHR in 4 markets. Boarded in Internal Medicine Dr. Tayrien practiced at St. Josephís Hospital and Medical Center and Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona for 18 years. He also served as a member of the teaching faculty and was a founding member and Medical Director of the SJHMC PHO, and Executive Director of Mercy Integrated Health, a 40-physician primary care group and Hospitalist Service at St. Josephs. Nationally he served on the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology developing inpatient standards for the EHR. Dr. Tayrien was awarded the John Shaw Billings award for Medical Informatics by the Department of Medical Education at St. Josephís Medical Center and has been recognized by the Association of Medical Directors of Information systems (AMDIS) for leadership in Medical Informatics following development of a scalable implementation model for deployment of advanced EHR functionality in large healthcare systems. Dr. Tayrien graduated with honors from Oklahoma State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1979 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa. He is board-certified and a Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internists.
