Niels Peek PhD FACMI FIAHSI is Professor of Data Science and Healthcare Improvement at THIS Institute (The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute), University of Cambridge. His background is in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and his research focuses on translational data science for clinical risk prediction, personalised and precision medicine, patient safety, and multimorbidity. Previously he was based at the University of Manchester, where he led the Christabel Pankhurst Institute for Health Technology Research and Innovation, a partnership of academic, healthcare, industry and public sector organisations that aims to accelerate the translation of new technologies into healthcare practice. From 2013 to 2017, he was the President of the Society for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. In April 2017, he organised the Informatics for Health 2017 conference in Manchester which was attended by more than 800 people from 30 countries. In that year he also co-chaired the Scientific Programme Committee of MEDINFO-2017, the 16th World Congress on Health and Biomedical Informatics, which was held in Hangzhou, China. He is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) and a fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI).

Professor Niels Peek has made major contributions to the US and international biomedical informatics communities through his work for the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) and the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME) Society.
