Public Biography
I'm an informatician at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU), and I finished my MBI virtually and work remotely while I live in Los Angeles. I have worked on projects to raise money for basic medical research and was a key member of a team including information experts, faculty, university administrators and computer technicians. I became particularly interested in research to find relevant medical data, particularly where data is found in research studies and in electronic medical records, and then used to discover new treatments for patients. In addition to my research in clinical research informatics, I am currently one of the senior editors for IMIA's Yearbook and oversee sections in Decision Support, Bioinformatics and Translational Informatics, Human Factors, Clinical Research Informatics, Consumer Health Informatics, and Sensors and Signals Informatics. All of this work produces a peer-reviewed yearbook available open source: https://imia-medinfo.org/wp/imia-yearbook-of-medical-informatics/ I have also been a senior editor for the Springer textbook, Clinical Research Informatics, and the 3rd edition was published in June 2023.

As an active member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), I was elected to the boards for students and also for clinical research informatics, and am currently chair of FAMIA. Additionally, my master’s thesis included using disease registry data and electronic health record data for relevant information about cancer treatments. I am particularly interested in all aspects of sharing research data accurately and with care for the quality and respect for data use and ownership. I was elected a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association in 2022 (FAMIA) and am currently co-chair of the AMIA Ethics Committee.
