Public Biography
Based in Kansas City, MO, Dr. Jason Mitchell serves as Physician Executive and Medical Director for the US Central Region. Since 2014, he has engaged with some of Cernerís largest clients to streamline workflows and optimize clinical quality. In 2019, he joined the clinical products team, focused on innovation and enhancement of Cernerís clinician-facing software and user experience. He has also used Cernerís newest technologies to provide comprehensive care to Cerner associates and their families in Cernerís HealtheClinic. He remains focused on clinician relationships, implementing and enhancing provider solutions to improve the delivery of health and care. Prior to joining Cerner, Dr. Mitchell practiced family medicine in St. Louis, MO for over a decade before his appointment as director of the Center for Health Information Technology at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). In that role he championed electronic health record system functionality and interoperability standards for primary care providers worldwide and was a national advocate for primary care, collaborating with government and industry leaders, patients, providers, payers and suppliers to optimize the role of advanced information management tools to achieve and maintain health and wellness for all. Board certified in both Family Medicine and Clinical Informatics and appointed as a Fellow in both the AAFP and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), Dr. Mitchell is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, alma mater of his wife and two sons. He serves as the chair of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Primary Care Informatics Working Group, participated with IHTSDO and WONCA in the development of components to ease the use of SNOMED-CT, and is a contributing author to several peer-reviewed publications on health IT in primary care. He also is an adjunct instructor for the University of Saint Mary, teaching technology courses in the Lansing Prison Program.
