Historic ACMI Biography
Dr. Case was instrumental in enhancing clinical data standards (HL7, LOINC, SNOMED CT) to meet the needs of animal health laboratories, thereby establishing a foundation for animal and human health information exchange. He helped to provide the motivation, training, and practical tools that enabled animal health laboratories to overcome variable states of readiness and uneven technical expertise to build a functioning national health information exchange network and a practical demonstration of the public health benefits of interoperable data exchange. As chief SNOMED CT terminologist for NLM (US IHTSDO Member) and IHTSDO Consultant Terminologist, Dr. Case is leading efforts to expand and enhance SNOMED CT to support meaningful use of electronic health records, as evidenced by his creation of the US extension to SNOMED CT.
