Historic ACMI Biography
Dr. Xu is a fast-rising star in clinical NLP. In 2009, he won AMIAĆs Homer Warner Award. He is the Chair of AMIA NLP working group and serves on the editorial boards of JAMIA and JBI. He has over 80 publications and has been PI of multiple grants including three R01s. Dr. Xu trained in Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. He is a tenured Associate Professor at the School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth. He has demonstrated outstanding scientific productivity and longstanding commitment to medical informatics research and education. Dr. Xu has devoted his research career to developing novel clinical natural language processing (NLP) methods and applying them to biomedical applications such as clinical and translational research. He has developed innovative methods and built advanced clinical NLP systems, which have formed the foundation on which successful clinical and genomic studies have been performed.
