G. Anthony Gorry, Ph.D. *

G. Anthony Gorry was Vice President for Information Technology and Professor of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine. He is a director of the W. M. Keck Center for Computational Biology, a collaborative program of six institutions in the Greater Houston area. For years he organized and taught at the informatics executive seminar for medical school deans and others high in medical administration. These were offered annually at Snowmass in Colorado during the summer, and they were sponsored by the AAMC. He had a wonderful teaching style, which involved both clever slides and a habit of pacing among the tables of the attendees while he spoke and used a remote to control the projection equipment. Those of us who were fortunate to have a chance to teach in Snowmass at some of those events will always remember this delightful man with a rich sense of humor. He later provided similar informatics guidance to the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was C0-PI of the joint Rice-UTH NLM training program for 20 years. Before moving to Rice, he was a faculty member in management and computer science at M.I.T. He has consulted extensively with corporations and institutions and has been involved in the development of several businesses. He lectures widely on the effects of information technology on society. He is the founder and chairman of the ForeFront Group, Inc. and serves on several boards of directors. Dr. Gorry was a member of the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
