AMIA 2023 Annual Symposium First Look Program
The 7th annual First Look Program introduces undergraduates with an interest in informatics and/or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to the field.
Students are eligible to receive free conference registration and are welcome to participate throughout the week as their schedule permits. Please note, attendance required on November 12, 2023.
The AMIA First Look Program is supported by the Women in AMIA Steering Committee with generous financial support from the Training in Informatics for Underrepresented Minorities in Public Health (TRIUMPH) Consortium*.
Eligibility
First Look participants must be at least at the sophomore level at an undergraduate institution with a STEM-focused program at an institution in the New Orleans, LA and Mississippi area.
WIA and DEI Collaborate
New! In 2023 the Women in AMIA and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committees joined forces to expand and strengthen the AMIA First Look Program by making eligibility more inclusive and extending invitations to more students studying at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).
Objectives
The AMIA First Look program aims to:
- Provide underrepresented undergraduate students with an interest in informatics and/or STEM an opportunity to learn about the field of informatics by attending key symposium events on November 12.
- Introduce and engage students in the Women in AMIA community by interacting with student who identify as women, including transgender women, in informatics through assigned mentored guides and both formal and informal networking receptions; and
- Equip students with resources for internship and post-graduate career “next-steps” in informatics by networking and making connections with industry and educational professionals in the exhibit hall.
