The non-thesis option of the Master of Science degree was designed for working professionals who want to face the new health care challenges related to biomedical informatics and health information technology.
A Master of Science degree in biomedical informatics answers this demand by training students in applied technical skills and management of health care analytics. Our program is geared toward:
- Clinicians and health care professionals
- Biologists
- Graduates in information technology and data science
- Program of Study
We offer three tracks and specialized practicums adapted to market demands. Credit hours are dependent on the track with a required minimum of 30 credits of coursework to include core courses, practicums, and respective track courses:
- Track: Applied Clinical Informatics
- Track: Bioinformatics
- Track: Data Science
*Note that the NTMS is not a research-oriented program. If you are strongly interested in a research career, our Ph.D. program may be a better fit. The application requirements and deadlines for the Ph.D. program are different. If you are not sure about your long-term career goals, you can start out in the Non-Thesis Master of Science (NTMS) program to better understand the field, potential research areas our faculty are working on, and career options in Biomedical Informatics. After completing a portion of the NTMS program, particularly at the end of the first year, you can consider the option of applying to the Ph.D. program, with a possible project and mentor in mind. You will also need to take the GRE to apply to the Ph.D. program. We have a few students each year follow this path very successfully. Please contact us for more information to determine the best track for your application."
